Independent Study

Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Independent Study is for intermediate/advanced artists who want self-paced studio time with little to no guidance.
To qualify, you must have taken at least one full class at CCC or a private lesson
If you have questions, email programs@carbondaleclay.org before registering.
Independent Study requires session-by-session registration, and shelves must be cleared at the end of the session (December 18th) unless you plan on registering for a class or independent study the following session*.

Find Your Voice - Handbuilding 101

Level: Beginner/Intermediate Handbuilding
Location: CCC’s Main Street Studio

Through guided demonstrations, creative prompts, and individual projects, students will be encouraged to experiment with the shapes, textures, forms, and ideas that naturally draw them in. Rather than working toward a single “right” result, the class will emphasize process, curiosity, and the discovery of what feels uniquely yours.
Perfect for beginner and intermediate students to explore their creative style. No experience necessary.

Visual Language of Surface Design
Thursday Evenings
Level: Intermediate/Advanced Wheel and/or Handbuild
Location: CCC’s Main Street Studio

Take your ceramic work beyond form and explore the expressive possibilities of surface design and manipulation. Different advanced decorative techniques will be introduced, including slip work, sgraffito, carving, and glaze decals, for example.
This class is designed for students who already have a strong foundation in ceramics and are ready to push their surfaces further, experiment with new processes, and develop a more distinctive visual language.

Are you new to the world of wheel throwing? Join us in this introductory course designed to jumpstart your love affair with clay. Instruction will focus on centering, opening, and pulling clay pieces on the potter's wheel as well as trimming, adding handles, and exploring basic glazing techniques. As your skills build, we will encourage you to explore your creativity and curiosity for ceramics all while developing a practice that enhances those skills.

Do you already have a wheel class or two under your belt and are ready for more? This class will help you build and refine skills on the throwing wheel, learn glazing and basic surface design techniques, and enhance your practice. As your skills build, we will encourage you to explore your creativity, curiosity, and connection to ceramics all while further developing your practice with our favorite local ski patroller and pottery pro.

ENROLLMENT POLICY
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. A student will only be registered for a class upon receipt of tuition payment in full. We cannot guarantee placement into a class until payment is received. Materials and firing fees are included in the tuition unless otherwise noted.
CANCELLATION POLICY
To cancel a registration and receive a refund, you must notify the CCC at least 7 days before the start date of your class. We will refund your payment minus a 10% cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days before the start date of the class. In the event that the Clay Center is forced to cancel a class, a full refund will be issued.
