Intro to Wheel Throwing
Monday Evenings
Level: Beginner Wheel
Are you new to world of wheel throwing? Join us in this introductory course designed to jumpstart your love affair with clay. Instruction will focus on centering, opening, and pulling clay pieces on the potter's wheel as well as adding handles and glazing techniques. As your skills build, we will encourage you to explore your creativity and curiosity for ceramics all while developing a practice that enhances those skills. PS - Sara is one of our studio techs and always has the inside scoop on firing schedules and studio updates!

Join Gabby, one of our favorite kdnk DJs and former CCC Resident, in this unique beginner class that combines the art of wheel throwing with the expressive nature of music. This introductory course designed to teach you the basics of wheel throwing while also exploring the ways music can enhance and transform your practice. As your skills build, we will encourage you to explore your creativity and curiosity for ceramics while sharing in the joy of a shared love of music. Bring your favorite playlists.

Building with Intention
Wednesday Mornings
Level: All Levels Handbuilding
This handbuilding course explores both technical skill and conceptual development through clay. Alongside skill-building, the course emphasizes idea generation, symbolism, and personal voice. Through guided projects and minimal research, students will create sculptural and functional works that reflect thoughtful concepts and intentional design. By the end of the course, students will have strengthened their technical abilities and developed a deeper understanding of how clay can communicate meaning.

Let’s Get Lit (Again)!
Wednesday Evenings
Level: All Levels (experience necessary)
Join Molly & Matt J as we get lit (again!) this summer. In this 8-week mixed level class we will explore the basic techniques of handbuilding and wheel throwing to create unique light fixtures or lamp prototypes. This class is a combination of demonstrations and in-class work time giving students the opportunity to ask questions and receive hands-on help with their lamp projects. The first classes will focus on foundational skill building to give students the techniques and inspiration to come up with their projects for the course.

Ceramic Jewelry
Thursday Mornings
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
From clay to wearable art! Back by popular demand, this ceramic jewelry making class teaches basic clay techniques, glazing/decorating, and jewelry assembly. By the end of the course, each student will have created a small collection of ceramic jewelry pieces such as pendants, earrings, or necklaces for gifts or to accompany your own personal flair.
Note: Class meets every other week. Does not include studio access outside of class.

Elemental Forms
Thursday Evenings
Level: Intermediate/Advanced
This combination wheel/handbuilding class focuses on 3 elemental forms: cylinders, bowls and slabs. We will modify and combine these forms into pieces that are functional, yet novel ceramic works. These works will lend themselves to your own sense of creativity and challenge your usual making mode, all with the intention of developing the potter’s eye as well as your skills. We will encourage good making techniques and then modification of forms to achieve an array of pots that are useful and pleasing to the eye and to the touch.

Independent Study
Summer Session
June 1st - August 14th
Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Independent Study is for intermediate/advanced artists who want self-paced studio time with little to no guidance. Students get 24 hour access to reserve studio time as space allows. To qualify, you must have taken at least one intermediate/advanced class at CCC or two beginner classes.
If you have equivalent experience elsewhere, email programs@carbondaleclay.org before registering.
Independent Study requires session-by-session registration, and shelves must be cleared at the end of the session unless you plan on registering for the following session.

ENROLLMENT POLICY
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. A student will only be registered for a class upon receipt of tuition payment in full. We cannot guarantee placement into a class until payment is received. Materials and firing fees are included in the tuition.
CANCELLATION POLICY
To cancel a registration and receive a refund, you must notify the CCC at least 7 days before the start date of your class. We will refund your payment minus a 10% cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days before the start date of the class. In the event that the Clay Center is forced to cancel a class, a full refund will be issued.
