Ceramic Jewelry Making - Teens

Thursday Afternoons

Introduce teens to the art of ceramic jewelry making, including basic clay techniques, glazing, and assembly. By the end of the class each student will have created a small collection of ceramic jewelry pieces for gifts or for themselves!

Intro to Wheel Throwing

Are you a beginner in the world of wheel throwing? Join us in this introductory 7 week course designed to jumpstart your love affair with clay. Instruction will focus on centering, opening, and pulling clay pieces on the potter's wheel as well as adding handles and finishing techniques. As your skills build, we will encourage you to explore your creativity as well. We'll even include demonstrations on how to use glazes so you can add your own touch of personality to your pieces. Come play with clay and create something new and unique. We look forward to seeing you!

Whether you're new to clay or looking to expand your skills, this class offers a supportive, creative space to shape functional art from the ground up.

Tuesday Evenings

Get your hands dirty and your creativity flowing in this fun, hands-on ceramics class focused on designing and making your own custom cocktail cups and mugs! Whether you're a coffee lover, a tea drinker, or a craft cocktail enthusiast, this class will guide you through creating stylish, functional drinkware from clay while learning key handbuilding techniques like pinching, slab-building, and adding handles. Our last class on Dec 16th meets across the street at the Marble Distillery, where we'll fill our new ceramic drinkware with their specially made craft cocktails and mocktails—no extra charge!

Spilling the Tea on Teapots

Wednesday Evenings

Spouts, lids, handles, bodies, feet, and more... the teapot has it all! Whether functional or sculptural, the teapot is the perfect vessel to explore advanced making in ceramics and the combining of many separate parts into a cohesive whole. This class will discuss advanced techniques on the wheel with a demonstration at the start of every evening, followed by independent work time. Let's build your wheel skills while also honing your eye to come up with perfect, pourable pot just in time for the chilly winter months ahead.

Mad Hatter Handbuilding Party

Don't be late for this very important clay date! Step into a world of whimsy and wonder at our Mad Hatter-themed class! Let your imagination run wild as we sculpt teacups, saucers, topsy-turvey teapots and all sorts of madness to line our table — all inspired by the colorful chaos of Wonderland. Perfect for beginners and seasoned artists alike, this playful workshop is all about embracing the unexpected and having fun with clay and glazing techniques. Emphasis will be on handbuilding, but wheel use is available if needed.

Independent Study - Fall II Session

October 13th through December 15th

Independent Study is for intermediate/advanced artists who want self-paced studio time with little to no guidance. Students get 24-hour access to reserve time as space allows. To qualify, you must have taken at least one intermediate/advanced class at CCC or two beginner classes.

If you have equivalent experience elsewhere, email programs@carbondaleclay.org before registering.

Independent Study requires session-by-session registration, and shelves must be cleared at the end of the session unless you plan on registering for the following session.

October 13 - December 15
Shelves cleared by December 15th. Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Price: $300 Includes half shelf | Firing fees included | Clay not included

ENROLLMENT POLICY

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. A student will only be registered for a class upon receipt of tuition payment in full. We cannot guarantee placement into a class until payment is received. Materials and firing fees are included in the tuition.

CANCELLATION POLICY

To cancel a registration and receive a refund, you must notify the CCC at least 7 days before the start date of your class. We will refund your payment minus a 10% cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days before the start date of the class. In the event that the Clay Center is forced to cancel a class, a full refund will be issued.
