LOVE, CLAY, & RESILIENCE

“For the last months, as we were faced again with the possibility of sharing an exhibition, we started to reflect on these ideas and how to put them into physical objects. And so, some pieces were born the way we figured them out, at the same time others didn’t make it at all and some others evolved at a point during the process becoming what they absolutely wanted. A trial and error process, which by the way is already long and extenuating due to the nature of our clay and the fact it is hundred percent hand made from collecting our clays to firing the pieces with cottonwood bark or cow manure.
At the end of the day we realized working on art collaborations, as in daily life, it has to involve a shared love for the media and the technique, the resilience to accept the failures, move forward and try again.” - Valles
A collaborative exhibition inspired by traditional Mata Ortiz Pottery from Chihuahua, Mexico.
“I have always believed collaborative artwork relates to the work of individual introspection more than the concerted thought between the artists. However, when it comes to collaboration in clay, between partners in life; it truly is the work of love and resilience.
Carla and I have been sharing our lives for the last sixteen years, and our studio space and love for clay for the last eight years. As a result, we have played each other’s mirror as we move forward and backwards, as potters, artists, and parents.” - Valles
Love, Clay, & Resilience will be on display at the CCC Gallery and featured in the CCC online shop from July 16th - August 13th, with an opening reception on First Friday, August 5th, 6 - 8 pm.
