Malcolm Davis August 29th & 30th 2009 / Magic & Mystery: Carbon-trap Shinos on Porcelain / Hands-on & Demo Workshop
This workshop will focus on two of the potter's most difficult challenges: throwing with porcelain, and trapping shinos with carbon. There will be wheel demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and lots of shino talk. One day will be spent on the wheel with porcelain, including assignments. The second day will focus on the tricky variations of working with carbon-trap shino glazes, including handouts, lecture, and glaze demonstration. It's all about soot. Kiln Building & Wheel Repair September 12th & 13th 2009 / Moses Klaassen
Have you ever wanted to know more about your pottery equipment, how to fix and maintain the kiln on your own? This will be an informative workshop led by technician Moses Klaassen of Clay Art Center, Tacoma WA. Focusing primarily on potters' kilns and wheels, Moses will lead participants through trouble-shooting when problems arise, how to replace parts, and day-to-day care of your studio equipment. Have your questions answered directly by a professional pottery technician! Lecture and demonstration only. Participants should come prepared for note-taking. Tuition: $100. Kelly McKibben October 17th & 18th 2009 Dates TBA / Screenprinting on Clay / Hands-on & Demo Workshop
Kelly McKibben will lead a two-day workshop covering techniques for image transfer on clay using a screenprinting process. Participants will learn how to use light sensitive emulsion, shoot an image onto a screen, and various ways screenprinting can be utilized with clay. Kelly McKibben is CCC’s Resident Artist & Studio Technician. She recently completed her MFA at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale IL. www.kellymckibben.com Tuition: $100. Joe Brecha April 23rd & 24th 2010 / Foil Saggar & Naked Raku / Hands-on & Demo Workshop Joe Brecha of Clay Art Center (Tacoma WA) returns to CCC by popular demand. This is a fun, hands-on workshop exploring alternative raku firing processes, terra sigillata applications, burnishing, as well as several other surface design techniques. Participants should anticipate a weekend of surprising, beautiful results and will take home a wealth of practical knowledge for future creations. Tuition: $200. Workshop Hours: 10a-4p daily.
