I have no clay experience.  I have taken a few classes, but it was years ago. I have little understanding of the difference between coil build, slab building, building with molds, or throwing on the wheel.

II intermediate.jpg

I have taken several clay classes. I feel comfortable enough in clay to be able to make basic forms.  I have some knowledge of clay related terminology but am looking to have a better understanding. I am comfortable working independently.

I have taken several clay classes within the past several years. I feel confident working with clay but am looking to expand my knowledge and skill set.  I am confident working independently.

Cylinders: One…Two…Three…Go!

This six week class will focus on throwing quality cylindrical forms as a base form. Open cylinders are the raw shape from which we can transform into many functional forms.

WEEK 1: We will all refine the quality of our cylinders using just 1 lb of clay per piece … we will each make a minimum of six thrown pieces on the first night. WEEK 2: The same approach using 2 lbs of clay for at least six works. WEEK 3: … you guessed it … we will make six pieces each from 3 lbs of clay. Making these cylinder-based  forms with a strong focus on your wheel skills and the discipline that come from repetition will really grow your understanding of many aspects of the making process. All of these cylinders should become useful forms for the home and kitchen. WEEKS 4-6: Will allow us to make other sizes of pot and push all of your work through the decorating/glazing process. You should be very pleased with your growth in craftsmanship and creativity by the end of the class!
